As many of you know, four of us are racing Ironman Italy this year, under the name: Team Iron Soul.
The Ironman race consists in a triathlon event with the following activities: 3,8km of swimming, 180km of cycling and 42km of running. This will take place on the 22nd of September, and it will take a whole day to complete it! 🙂
For David, Barbara and Joanna, it will be the first time. We have decided to channel some of our energy into supporting the work of a local charity. And this is where we are asking for your help.
Until my dad was diagnosed with cancer, I didn’t pay attention to the prostate. Now I know that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with over 40,000 new cases diagnosed every year and more men are dying from prostate cancer each year than women are from breast cancer!
Barbara’s partner Alistair was diagnosed with testicular cancer following an innocuous bike incident where swelling of one of his testicles did not resolve. Cancer was not something that came to mind as an option. He was 36 years old at the time. But testicular cancer is a cancer of all ages. It most commonly affects men aged 15 to 49!
We don’t like talking about male cancers. There is a stigma. Embarrassment and shame are associated. However, early detection is the key to better treatment and survival. To start talking about it, to raise awareness of symptoms and the importance of regular self-checks from early on, we would like to raise money and dedicate the Ironman Italy 2018 Race to Cahonas Scotland, a local charity, who work on the above issues about Male Cancers (Testicular, Breast and Prostate Cancer).
All your donations will go straight to Cahonas Scotland. We have already paid for the race, accommodation etc. We are not asking you for sponsoring; we are just asking to support an important cause.
Thank you so much!!!!YES, I want to help!
